Hay Fever Remedies

Hay fever, often referred to as "seasonal allergies," or "rhinitis" by the doctor, is triggered when a person's immune system over responds to high volumes of airborne substances such as mold and pollen. Primary symptoms might include runny nose, sneezing, skin irritation, sore throat, hacking and coughing, rash and sometimes hives. Pollen is released by plants at predictable times of the year, but the highest concentrations occurring in the spring, summer, and fall.

The very best method to overcome hay fever is to stay away from pollen, but that is almost impossible with airborne allergies. Outdoor air is packed with pollen during allergy season, and these particles flood inside whenever you open the door. Some people do not want to take allergy drugs due to the side effects and cost. Here are some tips to show you how to control allergy symptoms without medication.

First, stay inside whenever you can, particularly when there are higher pollen volumes in the air. Pollen is worst during the hottest part of the day, especially if it is windy. Do not go out when a neighbor is cutting their lawn, and have somebody else to cut your lawn instead of doing it yourself. Mowing the grass adds a huge amount of pollen to the surrounding air.

When you go outside, protect your mouth and nose with a face mask or scarf. A long sleeved shirt and long pants will keep pollen off your skin, which may get itchy and develop a rash from pollen exposure. Make sure to keep the car windows closed and the air conditioner running. You can get HEPA car air filters, strongly advised throughout the spring and fall allergy peaks. The HEPA car air filter removes most airborne contaminants that a regular vehicle air filter can't catch.

In the house, keep your windows closed and keep your air conditioner on. Begin using an air purifier that has a True HEPA filter, ideally one that senses and adjusts cleaning settings on auto-pilot. Ensure that the air filter has sufficient filtering capability for your bedroom and primary living spaces. Electronic home air cleaners will help you sleep better all year long and be free of sinus congestion in the morning.

Work on making your house pollen-free. Get a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner and vacuum regularly on the rugs and floors, even if you don't see any pollen there. The majority of pollens are so small that they are invisible except in huge concentrations. When the dog treads through the lawn and subsequently comes indoors, you should definitely dust off its feet and fur. Otherwise, it will distribute unseen pollen throughout the house.

Some very minor changes in housekeeping will be beneficial. Be sure you clean your clothes dryer lint filter with every load, ideally using a HEPA vacuum cleaner accessory brush. Never hang laundry outside to dry, or you will find yourself wrapped in sheets with itchy contaminants. Hose down your window screens and sills so that when you do ultimately open up your home, the breeze does not blow in all the pollen that was trapped in the windows.

Stay away from strong vapors. Substances that you ordinarily put up with without problem, such as degreasers or aerosol sprays, can easily make your allergic reaction much worse. Permit someone else without allergies to aid with handling them. Keep at a distance from paint, cigarette or pipe smoke, barbecue grill smoke and other strong odors during the allergy season.

Be sure you use your medication for other respiratory difficulties, whether for a temporary illness like bronchitis or chronic problems like asthma. A concentrated influx of airborne contaminants, which happens in allergy season, might trigger asthma. It also exacerbates other respiratory illnesses.

They are plenty of plants and organisms to blame for causing your allergies, but no matter which ones cause your allergies, your symptoms will get better if you follow these pointers.
