Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures

Plastic surgery is a popular term to hear these days. Whether it's for an accident victim or someone simply looking to enhance a feature they are displeased with, plastic surgery has something to offer to just about anyone.

Breast Augmentation

One of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery procedures today is the Breast Augmentation or Breast implant procedure. Breast implants are silicone shells filled with either salt water or silicone gel that are placed behind each breast, underneath either breast tissue or the chest wall muscle. The procedure, lasting only one to two hours, is typically performed with general anesthesia.

Women may decide to have a breast augmentation done for many different medical and aesthetic reasons. A Breast Augmentation allows women with small or unevenly sized breasts to acquire a fuller, firmer, better-proportioned chest. The procedure may also be combined with others such as a breast lift for even more satisfying results.

Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, better known as a Tummy Tuck, helps flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin.

The best Abdominoplasty candidates are those who have pockets of fat or loose skin that haven't responded well to diet and exercise. Women with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy are also ideal candidates for receiving an Abdominoplasty.

The procedure takes around two to five hours and can be performed with general or local anesthesia. The procedure will likely leave a permanent scar stretching between the hips, although it should be minimal and low enough for even a bikini to conceal it. Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, Abdominoplasty results are long lasting.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure that is typically performed to remove fat from areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin, cheeks, neck, and upper arms. When having Liposuction done, Anesthesia, local or general, may be used. Patients can expect the procedure to last anywhere from one to five hours depending on the amount of fat being removed.

Currently the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S., there are several different methods surgeons use when performing liposuction. Some of these methods include ultrasound-assisted lipectomy and suction-assisted lipectomy. With both methods, fluid is injected into the area to be treated. Then a tiny incision is made in and a small tube breaks up the fat layer and suctions it out.

Advancement of Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery has certainly come a long way since first being experimented with all the way back in 800 BC. It is no surprise plastic surgery has become so popular. With new technology, plastic surgeons now leave their patients looking better, feeling better, with little to almost no sign of scarring from these procedures left behind at all.
